Many good comments so far. Paternal vs. maternal side makes a difference in the way DNA is carried forward in the testing. My family has First Nations ancestry, but I won't see it on my testing because it was on my father's mother's side, and that isn't detectible in the kinds of DNA testing the popular companies do. If you know how the name was passed down, you'd have to get DNA from any of the remaining family at that level.
