The first statement of realization (of 18 Statements) from a well-known academic is shown in the slide above. “The science” tends toward a methodological narrow focus to facilitate the ability to demonstrate correlation in the research. Scientists want to publish in a way that establishes validity with peers. But does that have the desired effect on the targeted behaviors in the real world?

“Amy Edmondson introduced “team psychological safety” as “a shared belief held by members of a team that the team is safe for interpersonal risk-taking.” (“Psychological Safety and Learning Behavior in Work Teams,” Administrative Science Quarterly, Vol. 44, №2, June, 1999).

It has since come to narrowly mean laypersons employing interpersonal processes and practices that produce a psychological sense of safety rather than psychologists practicing theoretical professional methods and approaches safely. So, we know where to look to define and create a congruous parallel reality for sociological safety — and where not to look. Edmondson’s concept of “shared belief” is not the same thing as “shared reality.”

The differences will be discussed in other considerations of Sociological Safety™.”
