Title: "Race: Born with the USA" is the issue, CM, not the etymological references.
The issue is that race as skin color wasn't born with the USA. Your references and mine indicate that it was a budding concept with roots in 1400s Europe. Neither the concept of familial race nor race as skin color were born in Colonial America. Race-based slavery and persecutions (not just of Black Africans) was an invention that was tested then weaponized 200 years before Jamestown. The 100 years of African slave trade to South America prior to Jamestown dwarfed the volume of American race-based slavery.
