Very nicely written, Jodi. It’s hard to pin down what a thing is when we fail to see our reality as kinetic. I might just add that rather than being a harbinger of change, conflict means that something already did change, and some affected by that change didn’t like it. I’ve said it often enough, no one likes change, but everyone loves progress. Picture the CEO of your company pulling all employees together and announcing, “We’re about to make quite a bit of change here at the company.” The biometrics in the room would be off the chart. But if the CEO said, “We’re about to make quite a bit of progress here at the company,” the receptiveness would be very, very different. Change and conflict are in a constant dance, and whichever is leading can be different at any given time.
